Tutorial Flight (Voice and Button Control)

FIRST THINGS FIRST:

1. Setup FSX / P3D to run with with Admin rights prior to installing FS2Crew.  (Right click on the FSX.EXE / P3D.exe file and select "Run this program as an Administrator" in the Properties -> Compatibility tab.)

2. Open the FS2Crew 777 Config Manager and press "ENABLE FS2CREW".  There should be a shortcut for the FS2Crew 777 Config Manager on your desktop.  There will also be a link in START - ALL PROGRAMS - FS2CREW2014

When you press ENABLE FS2CREW, the required FS2Crew window and gauge entries will be added to the 777's panel.cfg file.  (You can open the 777's panel.cfg file with Notepad to check if the FS2Crew entries were added.  If they were not added, it means you have a write permission issue that is blocking our Config Manager's attempt to write to your panel.cfg file).

The 777's panel.cfg file is located here:

Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\PMDG 777-200LR\panel\panel.cfg

3. If using Voice Control, ensure your speech recognizer is set to ENGLISH - US.  That is critically important.  Even Australian and NZ users need to set their speech recognizer to English - US.

4. Setup the button assignment used to open and close the FS2Crew Main Panel.

5. For Button Control, setup the MAIN and SECONDARY BUTTON assignments.

6. For Voice Control, setup HARD and SOFT MUTE assignments.

7. Voice Control is not enabled by default.  To turn on Voice Control, press the VOICE button on the FS2Crew Main Panel.

NOTE: You can only toggle this button ONCE per flight.  This is to prevent users from repeatedly toggling the voice recognition system on and off.  (If you ever get an autopilot runaway, speak "CANCEL LAST COMMAND".)

If VOICE CONTROL is not enabled, FS2Crew defaults to BUTTON CONTROL mode.

8. To view the various OPTIONS settings, press the CFG button the FS2Crew Main Panel to cycle through the available options.  Change the selections using the Arrows Buttons on the Main Panel.

9. If you want the FO's audio checklists and call-outs to go through your headset, select your headset audio device in the HS Audio Device field in the CFG section and then press the HS button on the FS2Crew Main Panel.

10. Via the Config options, select if you desire to use ELECTRONIC CHECKLISTS or PAPER CHECKLISTS.

11. Open the PMDG FMC, and disable the built in V1, VR and V2 callouts unless you want to hear two FO's in the cockpit!  Those options are located in the Options - Simulation menu in the FMC.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

1. NEVER USED SAVED SITUATION FLIGHTS.  The default aircraft on the free flight screen should be the Ultra Light/ Trike.  Saved Situation flights can cause the aircraft not to load properly and generate SDK error message.  This is a PMDG recommended procedure as well.

2. OOMs:  Please read the PMDG 777 Introduction Manual regarding OOMs and how to combat them.  FS2Crew adds very little overhead to the simulation.  If you find yourself running out of memory, it's not FS2Crew.  It's usually 3rd party sceneries that use huge textures that are the source of the problem.  If you're getting OOMs, start by turning your scenery sliders down a bit and be mindful of photo realistic scenery.

3. To ensure you have no audio problems, run the AUDIO TEST.  The test button is located on the far right side of the FS2Crew Main Panel.  You should hear: "LEFT SPEAKER TEST... RIGHT SPEAKER TEST... AUDIO TEST COMPLETE".  If you don't hear that, check the Trouble Shooting section.

4. For the purposes of the simulation and this manual, you are the Captain and Pilot Flying.

5. If you get an SDK Warning message, please consult the Troubleshooting Section in this manual for assistance.

6. Always use the FMC.  Ensure it is completed in full.  FS2Crew pulls a lot of data from the FMC as part of the simulation.

7. If using Voice Control, we recommend you keep the Green Bar (DSP button) visible at all times so you know what the speech recognition system is detecting.

8. Due to SDK limits, FS2Crew cannot control the ground objects directly (GPU, chocks, etc).  The only way FS2Crew can control these objects is by pressing buttons on the FO's FMC.

Therefore, in order for FS2Crew to control the position of the ground objects, the FO's FMC must be powered!

ELECTRONIC CHECKLIST SYSTEM NOTES:

The FS2Crew FO can interact with the 777's Electronic Checklist System (ECL) using simulated mouse clicks.  Unfortunately the 777 SDK does not allow for directly control over the ECL, so this is the best we could do.  If you intended to use the ECL, understand that FS2Crew assumes you are flying "by the book".  If using the ECL, the FS2Crew FO cannot handle abnormal conditions.  The system assumes you are flying normally under normal flying conditions.

LET'S BEGIN:

Load the 777.  FS2Crew works with all current models including the Freighter.

For the flight plan, you can chose any airports.

If desired, load a PMDG Panel State (Cold/Short/Long) via the PMDG 777's FMC.  If you wish to start with the engines running, do not load a PMDG Panel State.

To avoid potential issues, it's recommended that you only use the stock PMDG Panel State files, and not custom versions to help prevent any possible SDK Errors or other issues.

In the PMDG 777 Options Menu in the FMC, you should ensure that the Capt and FO's altimeters are set to Sync, and that the PMDG's build V speed callouts for takeoff are disabled.

Next, open the Briefing Panel by pressing the BR button on the FS2Crew Main Panel.  Look at the top Departure Section.  Prior to running the Pre-Flight events, select if you will be using a GATE or a STAND for departure.

PRE-FLIGHT EVENTS:

If you desire to run the Pre-Flight Events routine, press the "PF Events" on the FS2Crew Main Panel.

Running the Pre-Flight Events is strictly OPTIONAL.

Special Note:  If you want to use the FS2Crew Pre-Flight events, do not also run the PMDG pre-flight events routine that can be triggered via PMDG 777's FMC unless you select 777 DOOR/ARMING DISARMING to NO in the FS2Crew CFG menu.   This is to prevent FS2Crew from toggling the door arm function with the doors already armed.

PRE-FLIGHT SEQUENCE OF EVENTS:

+55 Minutes: Preflight events routine starts.

Depending on your CFG settings, the jetway may connect and the passenger and cargo doors may open.

FO will ask you how you are.

VOICE CONTROL possible responses: I'M GREAT / I'M FINE / I'M OKAY /I'M TERRIBLE
BUTTON CONTROL: N/A

+54 Minutes:  Captain (that's you!) runs the ELECTRICAL POWER UP procedure.

Note:  Generally speaking, if simulating Passenger Operations, you'll be using either the LONG or SHORT panel state since pilots usually receive the aircraft powered.  It's only if simulating Cargo operations that you may need to run the Electrical Power Up Procedure because you would often receive the aircraft COLD and DARK.

ELECTRICAL POWER UP PROCEDURE
+54 Minutes:  Captain runs the PRELIMINARY PRE-FLIGHT procedure.
